Heart and Crossbones

Hello, welcome to the first post of my new blog Heart and Crossbones. It’s a personal blog recounting memories of my son’s childhood, and stories about our life together as he grows up. It’s also about special times with family and friends, and the little ordinary joys of life that are worth pausing on to take in and appreciate. I will go back and republish relevant posts from The Alexcellent Life (my first blog) here.

I blogged at The Alexcellent Life fairly regularly from January 2013 when my son was nearly five to March 2021 when he turned 13. I didn’t blog for more than a year for a range of reasons, but want to resurrect it now as Heart and Crossbones.

The name Heart and Crossbones was born out of a series of drawings my son did when he was preschool age, of himself and me. He would draw a heart above the drawing of me, and a skull and crossbones (like on a pirate flag) above the drawing of himself. “Boys don’t have hearts,” he told me when he was about three. “We have crossbones.”

The Alexcellent Life will be reborn as a lifestyle website. You can read more about me and follow here.

Welcome and thank you for reading.
